Broughton Parish Choir

One of the few choirs of its kind remaining in the UK, Broughton Parish Church Choir plays a central role in the worshipping life of St John’s.

With around 35 boys and gentlemen, the choir leads the congregation in worship and sings a rich repertoire of music from the Anglican choral tradition.

Our choristers receive a thorough training in vocal technique, music theory and musicianship, providing a free, first-class musical education in a friendly and supportive environment. Alongside their musical development, choristers gain confidence, concentration, teamwork and leadership skills which will benefit them both during their time in the choir and beyond.

The choir sings for Sunday services, feast days, weddings and special liturgical occasions throughout the year. One of the highlights of the choristers’ year is our annual week-long residential training course on the Isle of Man, while the choir is also regularly invited to sing in churches and cathedrals across the UK.

But it’s not all work! Choristers and their families enjoy a varied programme of social activities and outings, from sports matches and

car treasure hunts to canal cruises and days out together.

Girls & Ladies Choir

Broughton Parish Girls’ Choir was launched in March 2022 and is open to girls aged 6 and above. The girls sing regularly at St John’s and at St Martin’s, where they sing alongside our Ladies’ Choir, established in summer 2024.

As well as receiving thorough training in singing and musicianship, our girls enjoy a varied programme of social activities and special experiences. Recent outings have included visits to the Snow Centre in Manchester, Llandudno and an ice-skating trip.

St John’s Occasional Singers

St John’s Occasional Singers is a new group for anyone who enjoys singing but doesn’t want the regular commitment of weekly rehearsals and services.

We come together to sing for special services and events at St John’s throughout the year, as and when opportunities arise. There is no weekly commitment – simply join us when you are available and able to take part.

Whether you currently sing in another choir, used to sing and would like to get back into it, or have always fancied giving choral singing a try, you’ll be very welcome.

Bell Ringers

The bells at St John Baptist are rung on Sundays 10.30am to 11.00am and 6.00pm to 6.30pm Practices are on Mondays 7.30pm to 9pm.

The bells can be rung for Weddings and Funerals on request.

Bell ringing is a challenging and rewarding team activity. In learning to ring, you will become part of a large group of friends, start a life long learning experience and maintain a traditional craft.

JIGSAW

Jesus Is Great, Super And Wonderful (Sunday School)

Through fun, stories and crafts, children will come to experience the love of God and to understand that Jesus Is Great, Super And Wonderful and with him by your side you will never feel lost or alone.

JIGSAW classes run most Sundays during term time at 9.30am at St Peter’s and 11am at St John’s. At the end of their lesson, the children are brought into the service to share what they have been doing and learning.

Messy Church

Messy church is a form of church for children and adults that involves creativity, celebration and hospitality. It’s a church for people at all stages of their faith journey at any age.

There is a warm welcome, crafts exploring a biblical theme (usually messy), celebration time with a short story, prayer, songs and games, then everyone sits down to a meal together. Our aim is to introduce Jesus, to give an opportunity to encounter him and to grow closer to him.

Bring along your own projects or just come for a natter and see what others are working on. It’s a great way to get inspired, pick-up tips and make new friends!

Warm Welcome Space

We have joined the Warm Welcome Spaces Campaign.

We are open all year!

The dark evenings and cold winter months can be challenging for everyone. The winter is especially tough on people who feel lonely and isolated, and for anyone who can’t afford to heat their homes or get enough to eat.

We are here to help, offering you a warm, welcoming, free and safe space in your community to keep warm, connect, and make new friends.

We will offer free warm brews, hot food, device charging, wifi, games, jigsaws, movies or just a quiet space.

Many people visiting Warm Spaces like ours say what they love about it is the opportunity to make new friends and connect with their community. They come in for the warmth, stay for the welcome, and leave with a smile on their face.

Our Warm Welcome Space will be open EVERY Thursday, 11am-3pm, at St Martin’s Parish Hall, Broadway, Fulwood. PR2 9TH.

Church Cottage

Church Cottage Museum presents a rich and unique learning resource depicting life through the last 450 years, and is open to the Public on Sunday afternoons from 14.00 pm to 17.00 pm, except for Easter Sunday and during December when it is closed for conservation repairs.

There is a modest charge for admission of £ 2.00, but children are admitted free. Admission includes the services of a personal History Guide.

Other Private visits can be arranged by prior appointment, e.g. Womens’ Institutes, Clubs, History Societies, U3A, etc.
