“Father Shaun’s First Epistle to the Broughtonians”

Categories: News

Dear parishioners

Just a few words to say ‘hello’ and to let you know how much Mo and I are looking forward to joining you and becoming a part of your wonderful parish. We move to the vicarage on 4th July, and we have a real sense of ‘coming home’, with both of us having previously lived and worked in Preston – indeed we started our married life on Squires Wood!

As you know, my Induction and Institution as Vicar of Broughton takes place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 22nd July. I hope that as many of you as possible will come to this joyful celebration that is such an important occasion in the life of a parish, and marks the start of my ministry among you.

My first Sunday in the parish is 27th July, and I’d like it to be a special occasion where as many people as possible come together in prayer and worship. I will celebrate the 8.00am BCP Communion Service at St John’s, then I’d like to invite everyone from the parish’s three worship centres – St John’s, St Martin’s and St Peter’s – to come together at 11.00am in our parish church to celebrate and share the Eucharist.

There will not be a 9.30am service at St Martin’s or St Peter’s, or an evening service at St John’s. The regular services will resume on Sunday 3rd August.

I hope you agree that this is a great opportunity to bring together the whole of the parish community (I’m sure the family of the choir will be with us in prayer and spirit!), and it will enable Mo and I to introduce ourselves to you.

After the service we’d like to invite you to stay for a ‘Jacob’s Join’ picnic on the vicarage lawns (if the weather is inclement we’ll decamp to the old school hall). Please bring some food and drink to share, together with picnic tables, chairs and rugs.

This will give us all an opportunity to spend some time together, to meet and chat, to share hospitality and fellowship, and to start as we mean to go on!

‘And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body.’ Colossians 3.15

God Bless you, and see you soon!

Fr Shaun & Mo
